miyo capture · Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 29, 2026

The short version

miyo capture runs entirely on your device. By default it reads your own ChatGPT and Claude conversations only when you click Download, packages them into a ZIP of markdown files saved to your computer, and sends nothing to any server. If you turn on the optional Sync to Miyo Desktop, it hands your ChatGPT and Claude session to the Miyo Desktop app on the same computer so your chats are saved automatically. Either way, there are no accounts, no analytics, no tracking, no third parties, and nothing goes to us or any remote server. We never see your data.

About this extension

miyo capture is a browser extension that saves your own conversation history from ChatGPT and Claude as markdown files. It works in two ways: a standalone mode that downloads your chats as a ZIP when you ask for them, and an optional Sync to Miyo Desktop mode that connects the extension to the Miyo Desktop app on your computer so your chats are saved automatically. This policy explains what the extension accesses in each mode, how that information is handled, and what leaves your device.

What the extension accesses

When, and only when, you click Download for a site, the extension fetches your conversations from that site using your existing signed-in browser session. The data it reads is:

  • Your conversation content: titles, timestamps, and the messages in each conversation.
  • Your sign-in status on each site, so it can tell you whether you need to log in before capturing.

The extension never reads your passwords. In the standalone download flow it does not read your authentication cookies either; it simply relies on the session you are already signed into. If you turn on Sync to Miyo Desktop, it does read your ChatGPT and Claude session cookies, for the single purpose of passing them to the Miyo Desktop app on your computer, as described under Sync to Miyo Desktop below.

How your information is used

In the standalone flow, the conversations the extension reads are used for one purpose only: to build the ZIP file of markdown that you asked for. That processing happens locally, in your browser, and once the ZIP has been downloaded the temporary working copy is cleared. In Sync to Miyo Desktop mode, the session cookies the extension reads are used for one purpose only: to pass them to the Miyo Desktop app on your computer so it can keep your chats saved.

What leaves your device

Nothing goes to us or to any server.

The extension has no backend. It does not send your conversations, browsing activity, or any other data to us or to any third party, and it contains no analytics, no telemetry, no advertising SDKs, and no feedback or crash-reporting pings. In the standalone flow, the only network requests it makes go directly to ChatGPT and Claude to fetch your own data, the same servers your browser already talks to on those sites. In Sync to Miyo Desktop mode, your session cookies are passed to the Miyo Desktop app on the same computer through Chrome's native messaging; that handoff stays on your machine and never reaches a remote endpoint.

Permissions and why we request them

  • storage: saves your local preferences (such as the selected time range) and resume bookkeeping so an interrupted capture can continue. This stays on your device.
  • Access to chatgpt.com and claude.ai: lets the extension fetch your conversation history from those sites when you click Download. These are the only sites the extension can access.
  • nativeMessaging: used only by the optional Sync to Miyo Desktop feature, to talk to the Miyo Desktop app installed on the same computer and hand off your session. It only ever messages that one local app and has no network access.
  • alarms: used only by Sync to Miyo Desktop, to re-send your session to the desktop app about every 30 minutes so it stays signed in. No alarms run for the standalone download flow.
  • cookies (optional): requested only if you turn on Sync to Miyo Desktop. It lets the extension read your existing ChatGPT and Claude session cookies so it can pass them to the Miyo Desktop app on your computer. Cookies are read only for chatgpt.com and claude.ai, are sent only to that local app, and never go to any remote server. A default install never requests this permission, so you see no cookie warning unless you opt in.

Sync to Miyo Desktop (optional)

Sync to Miyo Desktop is off by default and works only if you install the free Miyo Desktop app on the same computer. When you turn it on, Chrome asks for the optional cookies permission, and the extension starts handing your ChatGPT and Claude session to the desktop app so it can save new conversations on its own.

Here is exactly what happens:

  • The extension reads your existing session cookies for chatgpt.com and claude.ai.
  • It sends those cookies to the Miyo Desktop app on your computer through Chrome's native messaging, never over the network. If the app is not installed or running, the handoff fails and nothing is sent.
  • It repeats this about every 30 minutes, and when your cookies change, so the desktop app stays signed in.
  • The Miyo Desktop app uses the session to fetch your conversations and save them as markdown files on your computer. The sync is one-way and read-only: it only reads your chats and never changes anything on ChatGPT or Claude.

The extension does not keep its own copy of your cookies, and they never reach us or any remote server. Turning the toggle off, removing the cookies permission in your browser settings, or uninstalling the extension stops the handoff right away. The Miyo Desktop app keeps the saved files on your own computer; see the Miyo privacy policy for how that app handles your data.

Data storage and retention

During a capture, the extension buffers your conversations in your browser's local storage (IndexedDB) so it can assemble the ZIP. This buffer is cleared automatically after the ZIP downloads, or if you stop the capture. Your small preference and resume records are kept in local extension storage until you change them or uninstall the extension. Uninstalling miyo capture removes all of its local data. The exported ZIP file itself lives wherever your browser saves downloads, and is entirely under your control. When Sync to Miyo Desktop is on, the extension reads your session cookies and passes them straight to the desktop app; it does not keep its own copy of them.

Data sharing and sale

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with anyone. Because your data never leaves your device, there is nothing for us to share. Use of the information accessed by the extension is limited to the single purpose described above, in line with the Chrome Web Store Limited Use requirements.

Children's privacy

miyo capture is a general-purpose productivity tool and is not directed to children under 13.
